Mission Playground Earth Advocates
Nike sponsors basketball players, Quiksilver sponsors surfers and Ferrari sponsors race car drivers; it only makes sense that Mission Playground would sponsor environmental activists. After all, environmental activists are our Jordans our Slaters and our Shoemakers.
Through the Mission Playground Earth Advocate Program we support and sponsor individuals who are doing their part to protect the playground. Beyond the tangible effect that our advocates have on the environment they also serve as a reminder that every one of us can make a difference.
Please check out our Earth Advocates below. And remember, we are always looking for our next hero so if that is you or someone you know please shoot us an email at community@missionplayground.com.

Brett Hochmuth
Mission Playground is excited and inspired to name Brett Hochmuth as our first MP Earth Advocate.
Brett Hochmuth created the G.O.A.L.S. (Get Outside And Learn Something) program in response to a troublesome observation that today's adolescents are not as interested or engaged in outdoor recreation and activism as the generations preceding them. Recognizing that an underlying contributor to this decline is a lack of opportunities for guided exploration in the wilderness, G.O.A.L.S. brings kids on multi-day river trips through several of North America's most beautiful river canyons.
Participating youth experience an increase in self-confidence, develop leadership skills and are endowed with valuable outdoor skills sets and knowledge in Leave No Trace Wilderness Ethics. Most importantly, the sense of personal pride and accomplishment that G.O.A.L.S. programs generate in wilderness environments instill a notion of ownership and responsibility for the wild places that remain around us.
Brett’s ambition is that G.O.A.L.S. will ultimately expose thousands of children to the great outdoors and by doing this create a groups of young environmental stewards who will care for, feel connected to, and spend as much time as possible enjoying the natural playgrounds that remain.
Sean and Kristin Bierle
It is with pride and pleasure that we introduce our second MP Earth Advocates:
Sean and Kristin Bierle are the founders and administrators of the Alzar School, a 501c3 nonprofit, accredited school based in Idaho (www.AlzarSchool.com). They love getting outside as much as possible and onto rivers in particular. They live in Boise, Idaho with their pup Pebbles (also a river lover). They are also enthusiastic travelers, with a special interest in Central and Southern America.
For Alzar, Sean acts as the Head Teacher, supervising curriculum development, while Kristin is the Executive Director, making the programs viable. The Alzar School provides leadership development expeditions for high school students, engaging the teens in outdoor adventure and exposes them to the wild, beautiful places that need to be conserved. Alzar School students participated in river clean up events, pulled invasive weeds, and have worked with orphanages in Chile. In 2010, the school will be working with nonprofit organizations that want to protect the Lower Salmon River by raising awareness for its "Wild & Scenic" bid.
Sean and Kristin started the Alzar School in 2004 and have led student groups in Idaho, California, North Carolina, Mexico, and Chile. They are both trained educators who are deeply passionate for working with youth. The Bierle's are working to grow the Alzar School into a full, year-round traveling high school.
